The girls are loving P.I.N.E. Project camp - tramping through the woods and water of High Park and the Humber Valley, building forts and learning about the flora and fauna of our urban wild spaces. Each afternoon ends with a sharing circle and the children take turns telling us a story from their day. I'm going to borrow the idea and share three beat-the-heat stories from our summer...
DRINKING: For Pip's sixth birthday, I bought a dozen Vapür water un-bottles, filled them with lemonade and, hey presto, a loot bag and a drink container rolled into one. (They also make great ice packs!) I liked the bags so much that I called the owner of the company out in California and he sent us a few dozen for the totstock volunteers. Thank you Jason!
DUNKING: A couple of months ago, we purchased a galvanized steel stock tank and replaced the worn out old blue plastic kiddie pond with an urban industrial chic soaking tub and we've been reveling in the water all through the heat wave.
DISTRACTING: A record breaking four and a half hour drive home from the cottage on July 4th tested all our patience but when the AC went out in the car at about the same time we discovered that the dvd case was empty, retro distractions had to be hauled out. So, the compound word game. I'll start and you figure it out. Door. Bell. Boy. Friend. Ship. Shape.... Our best thread was twenty. See how you do.
And finally, congratulations to Nicola Kentridge, who won a $100 shopping
spree at Grom's new location in the Beach! We'll have another spree to give away in August so stay tuned!
